His interest in motor sport began in the early 1970s, when the motor sports scene was dominated by personalities such as the Formula 1 world champions Jochen Rindt, Jackie Stewart, and Emerson Fittipaldi, as well as the International Trademark Championship with the legendary battles between Porsche 917 and 908, Ferrari 512S and Alfa Romeo 33/3.
