Harry Ferguson was a remarkable inventor and a man of vision. Aside from his innovations in mechanized agriculture he designed a four-wheel drive system for road cars and created inspired design solutions to a wealth of engineering problems. Yet he is best remembered for the small, unobtrusive gray tractor that bears his name. Launched in the late 1940s, it rendered its competitors obsolete and provided farmers with a tool that could meet almost all their requirements. The book starts with Harry Fergusonys early work on tractors and his development of the system, and his collaboration with Ford in the USA on the development of the Ford 9N tractor. Then comes an in-depth study of the TE20. Later chapters cover the TVO- and diesel-powered versions, American- and French-built Fergusons, industrial models, special-purpose variants, and conversions including four-wheel-drive and high-clearance models. There is an extensive study of the extraordinary range of implements available, with information also on tractor options and accessories.

Michael Thorne first experienced a Ferguson tractor when he drove a TED20 at the age of 14. His interest in Fergusons was rekindled in 1985 when he bought a TED20, and since then he has become the Ferguson enthusiast par excellence. Over 20 years he has painstakingly assembled an outstanding collection of nearly 50 Fergusons.

Andrew Morland was educated in Great Britain. He completed one year at Taunton College of Art in Somerset and then three years at London College of Printing studying photography. He has worked since graduation as a freelance photojournalist, traveling throughout Europe and North America. His work has been published in numerous magazines and books; related book titles include Classic American Farm Tractors, Ford Tractors, and Fordson Tractors. His interests include tractors, machinery, old motorbikes, and cars. He lives in a thatched cottage in Somerset, Great Britain, that was built in the 1680s. He is married and has one daughter.
