To explore the New England Coast is to explore the roots of our nation, from the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth Rock to the Battle of Bunker Hill. It is to experience the traditions that have shaped our culture and livelihood, from the quaint fishing villages at land’s end to the prestigious colleges of Boston. And it is to witness the natural wonders of Cape Cod’s miles of open beach, the rugged cliffs along the Maine Coast, the dense forests of Acadia National Park, and much more.

In The New England Coast, writer Kim Knox Beckius and photographer William H. Johnson present the sights and experiences that make this region one of the country’s most popular destinations, beloved by year-round residents and seasonal vacationers alike. As it highlights the coast’s history and culture, the book also offers practical travel information and suggestions for the best ways to explore the region. It is an ideal companion for the millions who flock to the New England Coast every summer, as well as perfect fireside reading during the harsh Atlantic winters.

Kim Knox Beckius’ previous books include Backroads of New England and The Everything Guide to New England. Since 1998, she has produced About.com’s New England for Visitors web site (gonewengland.about.com), which offers a virtual tour of New England and provides weekly commentary on the region. She lives in Avon, Connecticut.

William H. Johnson’s work appears in Backroads of New England and in numerous magazines, calendars, cards, and exhibits. He was named Photographer of the Year by the New Hampshire Professional Photographer’s Association and has earned several court of honor awards. He lives in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
