The 2006 International Speed Trials by BUB was the most historic motorcycle event ever at the Bonneville Salt Flats, and is captured in a fascinating new hardcover book complete with DVD by John Stein just released by Parker House Publishing.

By any measure, conditions for the motorcycle land speed record attempts in September 2006 were the best they had been in years. The temperature was ideal. The course had 11 magnificent miles of salt on which to run. And the three fastest streamliners in the world were there. It was a “perfect storm” for a record to be broken, and it was. The record, in fact, would be broken one day, re-broken two days later, and then broken again two days after that with a new top speed of 350 mph.

As noted motorsports commentator Dave Despain observes, “It is a significant honor to write the foreword, for the very existence of this book gives me great pleasure. WORLD’S FASTEST MOTORCYCLE stands as evidence of two important facts: The appeal of Bonneville is undiminished after more than 100 years of salt flat speed runs and nowhere in Bonneville history will you find a more interesting, innovative and loveable bunch of characters than those who cross the salt on two wheels.”

Motorcycle historian Stein chronicles the event, as well as the long and rich history of motorcycle land speed racing. The book covers not just the machines but the personalities who build and ride them—and who dedicate their lives to being the fastest on earth. The focus is on the three fastest streamliners, with the story on how they were built, as well as full technical details.  The book will be of interest to both the technically inclined as well as anyone simply fascinated by human endeavor.

In addition to 176 pages and 225 magnificent photographs, the 9”x12” hardcover book (ISBN: 978-0-9796891-1-6) includes a bonus DVD of the acclaimed SPEED Channel TV show, WORLD’S FASTEST MOTORCYCLE. This dramatic and insightful 120-minute show covers the entire six-day event.  Cinematography is stunning with on-board cameras, and breathtaking aerial and up-close shots of the action.
