The Chicago Homegrown Cookbook: Local Food, Local Restaurants, Local Recipes celebrates the best homegrown food in and around the windy city, profiling 30 chefs who work together with local farms to bring the freshest, locally grown, sustainable foods to their menus. The book is organized by season and presents 100 delicious recipes. Featured chefs include Rick Bayless, Rick Gresh (Primehouse), Rob Levitt (MADO), and Mindy Segal (Hot Chocolate). Exquisite color photography illustrates the recipes and profiles.

Heather Lalley is a recovering journalist who took a buyout in 2007 to go to culinary school. Today, elbows deep in flour, she bakes bread, regularly updates her flour girl blog, and follows the local food scene. She lives in Chicago with her husband, Frank, and her son, Nick.

When he was growing up, photographer Brendan Lekan’s family ran a meat market on the north side of Chicago. There, he learned to appreciate fine food and made a career out of capturing the simple beauty of food in his photographs. His work has appeared in Time Out Chicago, Culture Magazine, Men’s Health, and GQ. He lives in Chicago.
