The Safe Dog Handbook

Melanie Monteiro is an award winning advertising writer and voiceover artist in her native Los Angeles. During her twenty year career, she’s worked on many national brands including PetSmart and Pedigree, providing her with a unique insight into the concerns of pet owners, along with an inside glimpse of the pet industry. A lifelong dog lover, Melanie has been a puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence, the national organization that provide assistance dogs to people with disabilities. She’s also worked as a grooming crew member for the SPCA-LA and is active with other rescue organizations. In her continued quest to help dogs lead safe, healthy lives, Melanie went on to earn certificates in canine nutrition and pet first aid. She currently teaches pet first aid and disaster response courses for the Emergency Care and Safety Institute to pet owners throughout Southern California. Melanie lives in Topanga, California, with her husband, Mark, and Taiga, their six year old Lab.
