He holds a master of science degree in forestry from the University of Massachusetts, and he has worked as a conservation professional for eight years, with the Massachusetts Riverways Program, The Nature Conservancy, and The American Chestnut Foundation, and the New England Wild Flower Society. He is also the author of several books for Benchmark Books, including Biomes of Earth (2007), a six-volume series, and three volumes in Benchmark Books’ Animalways series—Eagles, Hawks, and Owls (2004-2007).

Marcus H. Schneck is the outdoor and nature editor at the Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and a regular contributor to a range of outdoor, travel, nature, and general-interest magazines. He has written more than two dozen books on subjects including backyard birds, nature and the outdoors, travel, pets, and gardening. He lives and gardens to attract birds in historic Berks County, Pennsylvania
