Heather Angel has had access to  areas few Westerners have visited.  In this vast country - the third largest in the world - varied climate conditions produce an array of habitat types, from the snowy wastelands of the frigid northeast to the tropical paradises of the south. Heather Angel has visited and photographed all these locations, particularly their indigenous plants and animals, from the giant panda to the endangered Amur tiger and the endearing pink dolphin and including lotus lilies, orchid trees and bamboo forests along the way.  Her travels include the inevitable ups and downs, concerns over electricity supply and internet access, the condition of the roads and the weather, and the remark all wildlife photographers learn to dread - 'you should have been here last week!'.   With each chapter focusing on a particular locality and it's 'keynote' species and including details of the efforts being made to bring certain endangered species ' back from the brink', Exploring Natural China is an engaging guide to a country that is just opening up to ecotourism.

Heather Angel, is a British award-winning wildlife photographer who constantly traverses the globe in search of pictures.  Her passion for nature, fostered by holidays on her grandparents’ Suffolk farm, culminated in a zoology degree at Bristol University. Heather then had no ambition to be a photographer, but while working as a marine biologist she used a camera to document marine life. She became hooked on photography and for more than a quarter of a century, Heather Angel has been at the forefront of wildlife photography in Britain.
