This unique reference book is designed to excite and motivate you to push beyond traditional techniques and to explore new approaches to painting. Acrylic Fusion frees you from traditional approaches to painting by exposing you to a diverse range of alternative techniques, unconventional processes, and the integration of unique materials that stimulate creativity and encourage experimentation. It's a must-have resource aimed at artists who make paintings, and it is also a great reference for any crafters, makers, and DIYers who use paint in their work, whether they make art journals, design greeting cards, or refinish furniture because the techniques can easily be adapted for many different kinds of projects and applications.

Dan Tranberg is an award-winning artist, writer, and critic currently based in Cleveland, Ohio. His writing has appeared in national and international publications including Art in America, NY Arts, ArtUS, BOMB, Glass, and Art on Paper, and he has been a frequent contributor to The Plain Dealer. He was awarded an Ohio Excellence in Journalism award in 2004 and received Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowships in 2002 and 2007. Since 2000, he has taught painting and writing at the renowned Cleveland Institute of Art. Visit him online at www.dantranberg.com.

In this informative and well-presented book, Dan Tranberg delivers an easy-to-follow basic grounding in acrylic paints and the myriad of possibilities they offer. In his own words, at the beginning of Chapter 2, he explains, "Because acrylic paint dries quickly and is mixable with water, it lends itself to experimentation with common tools and materials".

In Chapter 2, the bulk of the book, covers a wide range of techniques, many of which you may have tried before. What I like about Tranberg's approach is that he gives very detailed yet simple instructions and good hints about how to get a good result. He has prodded me into wanting to try these techniques all again, from the beginning, like Palimpsest, Tiny Bubbles, Acrylic as Watercolor, Hard Edge, Wrinkled Rice Paper, Marbling and many more.

There are twenty techniques in all, enough to keep someone very busy, if they arenew to working with acrylics or in search of a refresher. Clearly illustrated throughout, Acrylic Fusion concludes with Chapter 3, a gallery of examples. This book is an appealing jump-start to creative acrylic explorations.
